Steve Bug – Sat 25th Nov 2006 @ Chinese Laundry

I’m loving the new Pokerflat Recordings release… “Cloudy Bay” by Martin Buttrich. The title track is a really beautiful piece of music. I love the cello sounds (I’ve been very into string sounds this year). It’s almost got that “Knights Of The Jaguar” vibe about it, fantastic production. I’ll play it on the show very soon. Speaking of Pokerflat Recordings…

Steve Bug

Pokerflat Recordings main man Steve Bug played a 3 hour set here in Sydney on Saturday 25th Nov at the Chinese Laundry. He played the BEST deep/minimal/tech set I’ve heard this year by far, awesome! I loved every second of it, excellent track selection, consistent flow, a great progression through a variety of sounds. He mixed it up using Final Scratch with an Apple laptop. It’s been a long time since I’ve enjoyed an international’s set that much, and had such a fun night out, dancing non-stop. Yeah there were heaps of people crammed into the cave, but I found myself a great spot to boogie up the front. I only knew a handful of tracks he played. Some track IDs spotted by Tad and I…

Martin Buttrich – Full Clip
Mile Caro & Frank Garcia – Far Away (Jennifer Cardini & Shonky Remix)
Audion – Mouth To Mouth
Chelonis R Jones – Deer In The Headlights (Radio Slave Remix)
Paperclip People – Throw
Martin Buttrich – Cloudy Bay
Joris Voorn – MPX309
Microfunk – Pecan
H-Man – 51 Poland Street
Samim & Michal – Exercise
Lazy Fat People – Shinjuku
Petter – Some Polyphony

I also spotted Kompakt’s Michael Mayer having a boogie to Steve Bug. He played the night before, on Friday 24th Nov, at a Sounds/Glitch party at Yu. I saw the first couple of hours of his 5 hour set! He started off with 40 minutes of awesome, dark, stripped back, ‘Kompakt style’ minimal/tech stuff, and then built up to more synthy/noisey tracks, poppy/melodic stuff, and into some really twisted noise. The noise began to twist my mind into places it didn’t want to go, a quick exit made not long after. I enjoyed him much more this time than his previous visit. It’s a pitty he started so late into the night/morning, i didn’t have the stamina to last the distance. I’d forgotten how much Yu is actually a decent size club, with fantastic sound. I found a nice cool, dark corner to boogie in, a fun night!

Heard some great music this w/end, very inspirational, I’m in a fantastic mood.

Cleaning Sounds Is A Filthy Business

John Tejada - Cleaning Sounds... LP

The new John Tejada album “Cleaning Sounds Is A Filthy Business” is out now.

I bought and downloaded a mp3 copy from BeatPort last night. Make sure you grab ‘Mutation’ and ‘What Happened To Manners?’ from the pre-release as well, for all 10 tracks on the album.

Here’s the track order on the album, so you can listen to it the way JT put it together…

01. What Happened to Manners?
02. Clever Bunch
03. Mutation
04. Folding Room
05. End of It All
06. Zone
07. Science, I Think
08. Paper Jet
09. Calculated Time
10. Panorama

I stuck it on my iPod late last night, I’ve not had a chance to have a decent listen yet. I’m sure I won’t be dissapointed. I’m a big fan of JT’s productions, one of my fave producers. I wish he would play here in Sydney sometime soon!

Podcast Podcasts…

I’ve just been working out how to create proper podcasts. I’m still getting my head around the RSS side of it.

If you’ve got iTunes… go to Advanced > Subscribe to Podcast… paste this URL in below and click OK.

http://decoded.outer-rim.org/podcast.xml

You should now be able to grab mp3s (podcasts) for decoded_ shows 43, 44 and 46.

IE7 knows what to do with this active link too…

http://decoded.outer-rim.org/podcast.xml

Try it out, let me know how it goes.

If you have troubles with all that, you can grab the mp3s here… http://users.on.net/~dmccann, you can download play-lists there too, or you can find them here: http://decoded.outer-rim.org/?cat=10 on this blog.

I should also mention these mp3s are music only, you don’t have to worry about my voice-overs and station IDs rudely interrupting the music, they are only on the versions broadcast on www.pulseradio.net.

Enjoy!

Cheers DJ Dave McCann

Stuff…

Filed under: General — decoded_ @ 9:57 pm

Some stuff I’ve been up to of late that I hope to blog about soon before I forget all the details: Holiday in Melbourne (Hello Sara & Damo). Fantastic day in the Blue Mountains… mmm organic walnut sourdoh bread. Seeing Swedish producer/DJ Petter (Border Community) live at Sweet Chilli @ Civic Theatre. Seeing Detroit legend Derrick May DJ at Club 77, fantastic night of excellent sounds and loads of friends around. Blissful chill-out listening to FourPlay’s fantastic ‘Now To The Future’ album, warmth for my soul. Gigs coming… I see that Alex Smoke is playing in Melbourne in a couple of weeks… it’s looking like Sydney will miss out, dissapointing! Steve Bug is finally coming back to play in Sydney again in a couple of weeks, I’m looking forward to that. Minimal… Joanne just bought Magda’s new mix CD ‘She’s A Dancing Machine’ and I’m about to stick it on our iPods… And, lots of other stuff, more words soon, I hope… I still want to update about the Deetron and Nitzer Ebb gigs too…
