If you’re after info on other techno/minimal club nights with more local flavour in Sydney, check out the Sydney Loves Techno blog.

The InTheMix – Sydney – What’s On section lists a whole range of dance/electronic music events/club nights, check it out here.

I’m not much of a fan of dubstep sounds myself, but if you’re into it, there is a crew (Void/Index) in Sydney putting on regular quality events, often with internationals, check here for more info.

Party on!

  1. Hey,

You’ve left out Scuba at the Civic on the 23rd of July. He’s a friend of Deadbeat. Funny how they’re playing on the same night. A conversation between the two: http://www.xlr8r.com/features/2010/06/deep-end-holding-down-berlin-dub

Is Dettman in September or October?
    “SEPTEMBER 2010…
    18.10.10 : Marcel Dettmann @ Disconnected – Plantation”

    Cheers for the info.

  2. Hey mate, umm, I’ve not heard of Scuba before, I’m not really into Dubstep. I’ll add an entry for his gig anyway. I only know of Deadbeat via Mathew Jonson’s Wagon Repair label. Yeah sorry, I had some wrong numbers there, thanks for spotting that, Dettmann is in September, the w/end after I get back from Europe.

  3. I see. Well I think you should also check out Scuba on Friday night; in my opinion Scuba’s sound has more crossover appeal to fans of minimal/dub techno than Deadbeat, based on the mix posted by Void. I believe Matt is going to both.

Have a listen to this preview of Scuba’s Aesaunic EP and a short promo mix for an upcoming gig:

Europe sounds exciting! No doubt you’ll be attending some insane gigs there.

  4. I’ll have to amend the above comment by saying this:
Scuba’s dj sets lean more towards dubstep whereas his productions are something you’ll be interested in. You may be quite bored by his mix since you’re not interested in dubstep.

So you’re right for sticking to Deadbeat but Scuba is an amazing genre-bending producer. If Scuba was playing as SCB, then I would have had a far more convincing argument for you to attend.

  5. I didn’t know Scuba was SCB, I love those tracks 20_4, 3_5. I checked out some of his stuff, some great sounds on his Triangulation album, a lot more melodic than I was expecting, quite impressed with that Hotflush Recordings label, that’s the kind of dubstep I could get into, it’s like melodic techno, house and deep house just with different beats. I think my introduction to dubstep was the nasty, noisy stuff by Vex’d, which is really just slow tech-step drum’n’bass, and I’m well over my drum’n’bass phase.

  6. Well in that case you should try to make it to Friday’s gig. Going by what you’ve said above you’ll probably enjoy the following sets:
    – mnml ssgs mx 37, as SCB
    – RA podcast, Scuba vs SCB
    – Hotflush Podcast 03, as Scuba

They’re all hosted on Hotflush Recordings’ website:

  7. Set times:
    @Civic: 12.30 – 2.30 Scuba
@Phoenix: 0100 – 0230 DEADBEAT Live (Dub Techno, Techno, Dancehall)

Clearly not possible to attend both. Dick move by Index imo. Have fun at Deadbeat!
