UPDATE: Saw it! This film was fantastic! I loved it! It really made you feel like you were amongst Berlin’s club/party scene. I wish I could experience it again, now!. It was great seeing Berlin clubs Bar25 and Maria Club on film. The acting, editing, style, production of the film was top notch. Paul Kalkbrenner did a fantastic job as lead actor and music/sound-track producer, there’s quite a few shots/scenes of him getting busy with Ableton Live making music in the film, which was cool. It’s quite a sad/disturbing story really, but at the same time very funny as well, odd mix but it works. The sound was slamming at the Chauvel cinema, very powerful, felt like we were right there on stage with him at the club/party. A little warning, there’s lots of sex, drugs and techno! This film made me fall in love with Sascha Funke’s track ‘Mango’ all over again. I highly recommend seeing this film if you’re into Berlin/German club/techno culture! I’d love to see this again, it’s a shame it was only on for a few days in Sydney. I look forward to buying a DVD of it later this year. Now I’m off to buy the CD sound-track.
Globe-trotting DJ and electronic music composer Martin a.k.a. DJ Ickarus (real-life musician Paul Kalkbrenner), returns to the hot-house rave scene in Berlin to record his highly anticipated new album. But internal and external pressures are taking their toll. His heavy use of party drugs supplied by Crystal Pete (Peter Schneider) is adversely affecting his personality and damaging his relationship with girlfriend/manager Mathilde (Rita Lengyel). Sent to a psychiatric clinic, Ickarus’ downward spiral shows no sign of abating until he is allowed to compose within hospital walls. But is it too late? Can Ickarus overcome his demons and deliver the music?
