http:\/\/www.pulseradio.net\/<\/a><\/p>\nYes you have to ‘tune’ into the show\u00a0from the Pulseradio site\u00a0at a fixed day\/time,\u00a0much like\u00a0with a programme on FM radio.\u00a0Yeah, I know, it’s\u00a0a bit of an outdated concept with all the time\/format-shifting,\u00a0podcasting,\u00a0downloading stuff\u00a0around these days.\u00a0Speaking of podcasts, I will be making some mp3s\u00a0of previous shows available via this blog, but I would really appreciate your support listening to the show when it’s on. Having listeners will keep it alive!<\/p>\n
Pulseradio features a range of DJ-mix\/dance music shows from all over the planet, it began in Sydney in the late 1990’s, coming together out of an IRC chat channel, that’s how I got involved too.<\/p>\n
decoded_<\/strong>\u00a0is produced\/presented by me…\u00a0DJ Dave McCann<\/strong>\u00a0(absolutley no chance of making this an\u00a0annonymous blog now huh! hehehe).\u00a0The show is\u00a0a\u00a02 hour\u00a0DJ-mix of music, with\u00a0a minimum amount of voice-overs (I edit\u00a0them on after a mix is recorded).\u00a0<\/p>\nThe\u00a0music I mix up and feature would probably sit\u00a0amongst the:\u00a0minimal, tech-house, techno and electro-house\u00a0styles of electronic dance music, lots of producers and labels from Germany\u00a0feature mostly these days.\u00a0<\/p>\n
DJ mixing wise, I’m still\u00a0based on\u00a012″ vinyl records\u00a0via turntables, but I’m also using\u00a0mp3s\u00a0(purchased on-line) as well.\u00a0As much as I love vinyl, I’ll probably move to using more mp3s in future, it certainly allows me to have fresher music sooner, and there’s a lot of great net-label stuff out there.<\/p>\n
A little history… I started weekly broadcasting with Pulseradio in May 2000, over 6 years ago now.\u00a0I’ve always had a Monday night timeslot.\u00a0Originally my show was called\u00a0“TechFunked” featuring\u00a0lots of energetic, funky, tribal, melodic, percussive techno sounds.\u00a0I\u00a0featured many live guest DJs, lots of my DJ friends, and DJs from Sydney’s techno scene. Over the years as I’ve got older and mellowed so too have my\u00a0tastes in sounds, they’ve also got wider.\u00a0I realised there wasn’t much ‘tech-funk’ being played on the show anymore, so TechFunked got reborn\u00a0as decoded_<\/strong> in July 2005.\u00a0I took\u00a0the name from the short-lived Thursday night club that my mates Brad,\u00a0Ant (who came up with the name) and I did for a while at the Burdekin hotel.<\/p>\nThere’s been a lot of technical changes over the years with Pulseradio, moving from 16k mono mp3 streams via dial-up modems,\u00a0to\u00a064k mono mp3 streams via broadband,\u00a0broadcasting live from our homes\u00a0(all over the planet)\u00a0to a Shoutcast server,\u00a0to\u00a0now\u00a0Pulseradio offering 128k stereo mp3,\u00a0Windows Media, and Real Audio streams.<\/p>\n
We used to have a lot of fun\u00a0interracting with listeners via an IRC chat channel during our live streaming shows, giving shout-outs and playing particular tracks\/artists\u00a0as it was requested, but sadly\u00a0that\u00a0got left behind when Pulseradio changed to the\u00a0pre-recorded\/uploaded show format we have now, the plus being\u00a0Pulseradio now has\u00a0much higher audio quality streaming,\u00a0multiple streaming formats, and better quaility control.<\/p>\n
Another big change in the Pulseradio history, happened earlier this year when Partysan http:\/\/www.partysan.com.au\/<\/a> took over operations of Pulseradio from the original founders.\u00a0There’s a great new website, but as it’s still coming together we DJ\/show presenters have lost\u00a0all our on-line text based communication channels with\u00a0our listeners\/site visitors.
